Court
of Justice of the EC employs DBiT and dtSearch
The
Court of Justice of the European Communities was set
up in 1952 under the Treaty of Paris to ensure that
European legislation is interpreted and applied in the
same way in each member state. The Court has the power
to settle legal disputes between member states, institutions,
businesses and individuals. The Court is composed of
one judge per member state, ensuring the representation
of all relevant legal systems.
The Court picked DBiT to distribute the Court's decisions
in a wide variety of European languages. "We had to
distribute half a million documents covering a wide
variety of original source file formats," explained
Marc-Olivier Lifrange, Commercial Manager, DBiT. "We
then had to synthesize these files into one coherent
database-type structure. As a final step, we had to
deliver search results in about a dozen European languages."

"Automatic
indexing was key for us. We had great success
using dtSearch to hyperlink search results in
a dozen or so European languages. dtSearch's flexibility
with regard to multilingual support worked great."

For
full-text searching and fielded data searching across
this database, DBiT chose the dtSearch Text Retrieval
Engine. "The search engine we wanted to use had to be
very configurable, and easy to integrate with our advanced
classification systems, all in a multilingual Web-based
environment," said Mr. Lifrange. "dtSearch met all of
these criteria."
DBiT installed the dtSearch Engine on the Court's Web
site, including the automatic indexing feature. "Automatic
indexing was key for us." For the project, DBiT integrated
fielded data, full text searching and multilingual support.
"We had great success using dtSearch to hyperlink search
results in a dozen or so European languages. dtSearch's
flexibility with regard to multilingual support worked
great."
