MarketScape Finds dtSearch Worth a Bundle

MarketScape is the developer of WebCD, which allows users to combine multimedia with the contents of their web sites onto a Net-connected CD-ROM for distribution as marketing collateral and sales tools. Industry leaders such as Microsoft and Ziff-Davis use WebCD's technologies as the cornerstone of high-visibility marketing campaigns.

WebCD has won numerous industry awards for the benefits it provides to marketing professionals in need of a cross-platform solution. Using WebCD, a MarketScape customer can leverage one of their most valuable corporate assets -- their Web site -- into direct marketing promotions and fulfillment materials. With this single source of content, the MarketScape customer can deliver an integrated message both through the Internet and through a CD marketing campaign.

With all this information on a handy CD, the question became how to search it. When MarketScape released its first version of WebCD, it included its own proprietary search tool so users could search the CDs. While this proprietary search tool was satisfactory for the initial product release, by the time that plans for the second release rolled around, MarketScape's customers were beginning to request advanced features that Marketscape's own proprietary search engine could not provide.

Requests for features like relevancy ranking and field searching prompted MarketScape to hire a consultant to analyze the search market. After a thorough analysis, MarketScape decided to go with dtSearch. dtSearch offered the advanced search options that MarketScape's customers sought. And dtSearch provided its advanced search options across the wide variety of file types that MarketScape needed, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, HTML, and PDF.
